”The Guardian is getting into the blogging business, reaching into niche publishing sectors with a range of sites due to go live over the next six months. It’s also looking at giving its columnists their own weblogs.
The newspaper has been a keen proponent of the medium in the past few years, launching the Guardian Unlimited weblog, running its own blogging competition and fuelling a wave of interest in the so-called Baghdad Blogger, Salam Pax, during the last Gulf War.
Guardian Unlimited is now aiming to launch around six blogs by the end of the year, the first of which, a computer games destination, will go live in on Monday. More are likely to follow, including the possibility of columnists’ own blogs.
’Blogging is a really important trend for us in the way that we publish on the Web,’ said Simon Waldman, director of digital publishing at Guardian Newspapers.”
